| BELL & ROSS launches BR-X5 GREEN LUM watch
Bell & Ross lights up the night with the new BR-X5 Green Lum.
Bell & Ross' sports watches are world-renowned for their craftsmanship and durability, with square cases also being a major selling point. The BR-(-)5 watches they produce also perform well. We reviewed the BR-05 Horolum and were very pleased with its appearance, level of finish for the price, and solid build, which made it feel like a distinctly premium product. Bell & Ross has since launched the BR-X5, a slightly richer watch than the BR-05, with a three-day power reserve and an improved movement, the latter of which has been a sticking point for potential buyers since its launch . The BR-05 is out, at least according to WristReview's reviews section.
What we see here is another look at the fun side of the French brand. Sure, Bell & Ross makes serious-looking pilot watches and the like, but their quirkiness is always there. In this case, it's clear that the Parisian brand doesn't think the City of Lights is enough, since it almost completely covers the BR-X5. The BR-X5 Green Lum is part of the “Lum” series of watches, a brand that takes luminous performance to the extreme.
Given that previous products in the “Lum” series have come with luminous rubber straps, I was surprised that the new watch comes with a more ordinary black rubber strap. Maybe making a light-up strap is harder than expected. Nonetheless, it's framed by a very attractive 41mm x 12.8mm grade 2 titanium case with a black DLC coating. The majority of the case and the top of the bezel have a luminous fiberglass look, while the bezel edges, screws, crown and crown guard are all in black titanium. Waterproof depth is 100m.
The black dial appears to have a matte finish that matches the titanium elements of the strap and case, and the luminous dial has also been turned up to 11 (no pun intended) with plenty of accents to complement the hands and markers.
Inside is the self-winding caliber BR-CAL.323, made exclusively for Bell & Ross by Kenissi. The BR-CAL.323 is a COSC-certified chronometer that beats at 4 Hz and has a power reserve of up to three days, displayed via a power reserve indicator on the dial. The self-winding movement is visible through the case back, and the smoked crystal dims the view but still allows one to see inside.
